While using Samsung messages, I like the lay out better and that I can pull down the messages to the middle of the screen for easier one handed use. Also I had 2 default message apps, the Samsung and a Verizon app, both displayed all the missing messages when I switch between them, the Google app never did. What you might try, both of you uninstall Samsung Messages, then both go to the Samsung Store and find the App. It compresses images way more than Samsung Messages. I've cleared the cache, reinstalled Messages, even did a factory reset and restored my messages using SMS Backup Pro. We wrote to customer support, but I fear that the messages are corrupted I've been using Samsung Dynamic version 10. Samsung calendar, Samsung video etc. The only way to see them now is to either unlock the phone or have another notification that you can pull down to see all of them.
